INDIGENOUS SHARING CIRCLE
There are many issues related to the Indigenous community, whether they are First Nations, Metis or Inuit, whether they live on a First Nations, in an urban setting or in the far north. As Vincentians and Catholics, we have an opportunity to be part of the reconciliation process. In particular Indigenous Peoples living in poverty or those facing barriers related to various injustices. We can and should do more!
Our Indigenous Sharing Circle will be working on educational material and possible actions that every council/conference should consider. All members are encouraged to contact any nearby First Nations, Metis Nations of Ontario chapter or Indigenous Friendship Centres and discuss how we may work with the indigenous community in a respectful and compassionate manner.
There is much we can learn about Indigenous history, culture, faith traditions and laws, all of which share the Catholic social teaching of the common good of every human being. Please take some time to discuss how and what you may do as a starting point. In the coming months, we shall provide further assistance in regard to how you can be part of reconciliation.
When I consider such actions and dialogue I always remember this Indigenous request.
“NOTHING ABOUT US, WITHOUT US”
Jim Paddon, Chair
Indigenous Sharing Circle.
