Kitchener-Waterloo Archangels

Welcome to the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul Archangels Youth in Kitchener-Waterloo Conference page! We have meaningful initiatives throughout the community that are both fun and a great help to the less fortunate in our cities and internationally.

Some of our largest projects that we are very proud of are the following:

  1. Sandwich Project
This is our longest running initiative, coming on 14 years now. Every month we get together as a group and prepare 300 sandwiches that go into 150 bagged lunches full of snacks and drinks for individuals and families within the Kitchener I Waterloo area. We distribute these lunches at the Worth a Second Look thrift store in Downtown Kitchener. Every month we interact with regular and new faces, rain or shine. We are consistently told how much we are needed and appreciated by those who come.
  2. Pencil Case Project
The Pencil Case Project is a project that helps school aged children and their teachers from around the world. Each year a country in need is selected and flyers go out to the donor schools and partners to begin coordination. We collect gently used and new school supplies from all over the Tri-Cities (Kitchener, Waterloo, and Cambridge), London, Hamilton, and the GTA, wijth the help of our SSVP brothers and sisters from these areas. These school supplies are sorted, counted, packaged, and shipped off to the chosen country in a 20-foot container. On average, we ship over 7,000 pounds of material. This initiative was started to help give children the opportunity for an education, while having a better school experience by providing the supplies for the classroom that are easily accessible to us here in Canada. Countries that we have assisted are: Haiti, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Peru, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Philippines, Rwanda, and Trinidad/Tobago.
  1. Shrove Tuesday
At the beginning of each Lent, our Youth partner with the Scouts to plan and organize the Annual Pancake Super in the church hall of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Our youth volunteer in a number of roles, including, setting up, pancake making, dishwasher duty, serving guests, clearing tables, and tearing down/cleaning up. The Parishioners are very happy to see the youth being active in their church and mentoring the young Scouts. Proceeds go towards assisting the programs the Scouts and SSVP youth are engaged in.
We are always looking for more youth to come join us help those in our community. Anyone 13 or older is welcome!
