Pencilcase Project

For the past nine years, Society of Saint Vincent de Paul Youth in Ontario, with support from the International Council General, have collected new and used school supplies at the end of the school year to send to developing countries. These donated goods, which would otherwise be thrown out, are being put to good use helping children in these countries to have schools stocked with supplies, allowing them to learn and get an education in the hope of a brighter future.

In the past, countries that have benefitted from the Pencil Case Project include Rwanda, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, and Guatemala. In 2010, over 4700 pounds of pencils, pens, crayons, textbooks and other supplies were sent to Jamaica. See below for pictures of children in Haiti receiving their school supplies in 2009.
