Guideline on How to Connect with Schools and Churches

* before going out and connecting it is important to already have sites to volunteer at, an Executive team and a form of communication ready

Connecting with Churches

  1. Adult Conferences The easiest way to connect churches in and around your community is through your adult conferences. Ask them to help you set up an announcement either before or after mass talking about the youth conference and asking for young people to come out and volunteer.
  2. Bulletin Board or Newsletter Create a poster with the events you have planned and a way to contact the Exec if they are interested in volunteering. Ask the church if you are able to put the poster up as well as whether they are able to add this to their weekly newsletter or their website. This poster should POP remember that you are trying to attract young volunteers so we want to capture their attention and entice them to come out to these events.
  3. Youth Groups Some churches have youth groups set up, this is a wonderful asset if you are able to connect with them. Ask them if you are able to have a small time to present what our Society is about and the places they are able to volunteer at. Connecting with Schools
  4. Clubs This is only applicable if you attend the school - you can start a club within your school and ask other student to help out and volunteer.
  5. Announcements Ask the school if they are able to make an announcement about the start of this youth conference and the places and times the group is going to volunteer in as well as how to contact the group
  6. Volunteer Hours Entice the students by making them aware that they can get volunteer hours by coming out as well as the opportunity to win the Emmanuel Bailly Scholarship
  7. Posters Some schools may have a bulletin board for student so ask the school if you are able to put a poster up - include site locations, times, and how to sign up. * this is a lay-Catholic organization so although we do not discriminate against religion, the school you are approaching may be hesitant to allow the group to advertise volunteer opportunities because of this. Just thank them for their time and move on to the next school.

SIGNING UP
It is important for volunteers to sign-up for events as we do not want the sites to feel overwhelmed with the amount of volunteers that attend. There are usually a maximum number of volunteers that sites prefer to have at a time. Do not turn away volunteers if they do show up without signing up - just kindly remind them to sign up for any future events.
