Spring 2026 ONTARIO North of 60 Report

March 2026

Losing an hour's sleep - that won’t hinder us! Spring has sprung and Vincentians across Ontario are leaping into action with startups for North of 60 2026.

Again this summer we will continue to support our nine communities across Nunavut.

Determining the Needs

Each community has been contacted to request the essential list of foods that they hope to receive this summer. This process is really important for our conferences and councils as they begin to gather items for two reasons. Not only does it ensure the families will receive food but more importantly, the items gathered are exactly what they have deemed to be essential for their families.

Delivering the Support

Very excited are St Patrick’s in Markham and St Elizabeth Seton in Newmarket who will once again work alongside each other to fill 2 sea containers for the communities of Gjoa Haven and Taloyoak. These will be shipped on the second marine crossing arriving in early August. The communities of Kugaaruk, Baker Lake, and Rankin Inlet will also be on this crossing. However, these communities will receive crates of food that was purchased through financial support from Vincentian donations designated for the families in each of these communities.

The communities of Whale Cove, Coral Harbour, Chesterfield Inlet and Naujaat will each receive a sea container but on the third marine crossing to arrive in early October.

Challenges

Nunavut experienced three horrific community fires in 2025. This has resulted in building supplies needing to be shipped to these devastated communities for the necessary reconstructions. Our sea containers are competing for shipping space. At the end of March, North of 60 will receive confirmation of booking numbers ensuring our shipments to Nunavut.

How You Can Help

We are in the initial stages of our Nunavut journey and we are always looking for more Vincentian support. Whether you are a conference, a council or a Vincentian member, you too can be involved in this wonderful project. Please reach out to me. We can work out the best way for you to become part of the help needed to alleviate the daily struggles of so many families across Nunavut.

More news will be shared in July so please stay tuned
