Easter People(April 1 2021) EASTER PEOPLE
Some of the earliest accounts of the followers of Jesus tell of the way they lived after the Resurrection:
Those were the first Easter People. They are our models as we strive to live as Jesus asks us to live. They either knew Jesus personally or learned about him from his closest friends. They received the Good News in its earliest form and were able model their lives as Jesus asked his followers to live, every day. Being Easter People isn’t just for the celebration of Easter or for the Easter season; it is a permanent way of life. Who are the Easter People today? Perhaps they are those we encounter who are faithful, trusting and full of hope. They go around doing God’s work quietly and without looking for reward. Carey Landry’s song ‘People of Peace’ describes what Easter People strive for:
Our Vincentian vocation to serve Christ in His poor invites us to strive to be Easter People. So many Vincentians I have encountered are there already! May God lead us toward ever greater service, toward a more perfect version of Easter People, People of the Resurrection.
