About 100 SSVP members gathered together to celebrate the feast day of our patron, Saint Vincent de Paul. The day began with coffee and muffins at registration in St. Mary's School Auditorium. The program opened for the day with the church bells ringing and the congregation singing The Bells of St. Mary's. This was followed by a brief but interesting talk by Fr. Tom Lynch about the church history and stained glass windows. The main celebrant for the mass in the church was Bishop William McGrattan. Each conference processed in their banners which were displayed at the front of the church during mass. Following mass the banners were taken to the school for display throughout the remainder of the day. Fred O'Donnell and Dorothy Dow of Peterborough Particular Council gave reports on council business. Fr. Tom Lynch paid tribute to newly canonized Saint Teresa of Kalkota. Conference presidents shared one highlight of their local ministry to the poor. Zita Devan of A Place Called Home shared stories that might inspire other conferences to work toward forming a shelter for the homeless in their community. Zita was thanked by St. Mary's Conference President Marie Young. A delicious lunch prepared by members from all councils was shared.
