On Saturday, May 12 th , the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul organized a lunch BBQ at the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store, 585 York Street, London, to feed the hungry. Thanks to donations from Subway, Marshall's Pasta, Remark Fresh Markets, Metro & Sobey's, we were able to provide hamburgers, apples, chips, cookies and drinks to over 500 guests. We were blessed to have 50 volunteers between the 2 shifts serving our guests making them feel welcome and bringing smiles to many faces.

The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul is a lay Catholic organization whose mission is to live the gospel message by serving Christ in the poor with love, respect, justice and joy.

The Society has 12 Conferences located within the Catholic Churches of the City of London. We receive calls from people in need who cannot afford to buy food. In 2011, we visited 5,408 homes helping 7,484 adults and 4,576 children. Four Conferences have food banks where our friends in need come to the Parish and are given food; 5,500 people were helped by these food banks in 2011. We also served meals to 1,324 people in 2011. In addition to providing food, we provide vouchers to provide free furniture, clothing and household items to fill the basic necessities for those who cannot afford to buy these items. In 2011, we gave away free items valued at $54,280 to help our friends in need.

Our Society relies strictly on donations from the community to help our friends in need. We are fortunate to receive cash donations as well as donations of furniture, clothing and household items at our Thrift Stores. Our Thrift Stores are located at 585 York Street and 1005 Elias Street.
