'Spring' into Action (update)

(posted: April 18, 2013)

Untitled Document The Social Assistance Review Commission released its final report to the Ontario government in October 2012. It contains 108 recommendations to reform Ontario's Social Assistance program for the benefit of many of our neighbours in need.

(See the full report at www.socialassistancereview.ca/home, or the attached document that highlights some of the main recommendations).

Currently, the Ontario government is holding prebudget consultations in anticipation of the provincial budget to be released in May of this year.

Contact your MPP and/or the Clerk of the Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs to let them know that the Budget needs to contain provisions to begin implementing the recommendations of the Social Assistance Review Commission.

The Clerk of the Standing Committee is Katch Kotch katch_koch@ontla.ola.org .

Sample message:

I ask that the upcoming provincial budget include the provisions necessary to begin implementing the proposals contained in the Social Assistance Review Commission report. Specifically, to allow people on social assistance to maintain a higher level of assets, keep more of the money they earn, retain more of their child support without penalty and raise the rate for a single person on OW $100 per month.
